Hey guys — my name is Jess. I’m a second year master student at the Maryland Institute College of Art in the Photographic and Electronic Media program lead by Bill Gaskins. As I’ve been trying to figure out what my thesis project was going to be. I have gone through many different options being excited for each along the way. This one is a tangent of what I had been working on beforehand and it has evolved in to exactly what I am suppose to be doing.

Each image is a visual representation of the song that I associate with that memory. The realization came as I was driving out of Death Valley. Girls, Girls, Girls by Motley Cure came on and something clicked in my brain and I realized that was the perfect song for the feeling that I was having and matched the colors of the world around us. I knew this was a weird feeling because I can’t think of another time I chose to listen to Motley Cure. Upon more reflection I realized that I associated most of my life with songs. Distant memories that are brought back by the words and musical notes of others.
